Hearing God ...Part 1

Why it's important to hear God for yourself?

There are several Christians that do not understand that they can hear God's voice. But John 10:27 says, My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. If the bible is true, and it is, this means that if your heart belongs to God, you are His sheep and you can hear Him.

Spiritual Maturity

Note:

Your maturity may not be the same as a Christian you know. You could be a lamb, meaning that you are a babe in Christ. I want to add here that a babe does not mean a new believer only. A person can be a Christian for 45 years and still be a babe. It has to do with spiritual maturity.

Let's dissect the scripture:

If you're His, you hear Him.

If you hear Him - You know each other.

To properly follow Him, you must first hear.

In this scripture, the word "know" means to have intimate knowledge of. To learn a person's voice even if the sound is faint can only be understood if you know them intimately.

So what does this mean?

To know of God is not good enough. You probably have heard someone say that they know you but they really don't. Maybe they saw you often on their street or in their neighborhood but they don't actually know you intimately. Would they recognize your voice in a crowd of people? Surely not!

This is how some Christians limit their understanding of knowing God. If you don't know a person, you cannot recognize when they're speaking.

Let's see what the Word says...

Luke 13:23-27

23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,

24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.

25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:

26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.

27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.

This may seem kind of scary but my point is that we need to know God so we can hear His voice and to be sure of our salvation. There's no need to fear but you should be prompted to get to know God for yourself. Surface-level covenants are just not good enough! The more you know Him, the more you'll sound like Him, walk like Him, and act like Him. Why is that? He'll keep instructing you and cleansing you. This should be familiar because whoever raised you had an effect on you. You might smile like your father or walk like your grandmother. People can usually determine your lineage by observing you. It's the same thing.

Knowing Him means:

You're His sheep

You're His heir

You're His family

Will you get to know Him better today?
