Here's a snapshot of Absalom's main goals:
Steal the hearts of the people from the leader
Replace their leader
Destroy their leader
Terrible right? Don't I know it!
To better understand how to detect the spirit of Absalom, we need to dissect its traits by going back in time—in the Word of God.
First of all, who is Absalom?
Absalom was the son of King David who tried to take his father's throne. Absalom was also the brother of Tamar, David's daughter. Tamar was raped by her other brother Amnon. The rape of Absalom's sister was terrible but the fact that King David didn't do much about it caused Absalom to take offense.
The spirit of Absalom thrives, plans, and attacks based on an offense!
If you are struggling with demonic spirits, hurt, pain, or just want to be spiritually cleansed, buy my self deliverance manual, "Deliver Me From Myself Trials."
I'm speaking from experience so I can tell you firsthand what to look out for. The spirit of Absalom usually festers in spiritual children who have taken offense at some point in time and like Absalom, then they wait to make an attack on their leader. They go from speaking good about you and then complete hatred for you.
Absalom can attack on the job, in the home, and anywhere there's a leader.
I'd love to teach you more about recognizing spirits and walking in the light of the Lord. Check out my resources about the gifts and manifestations of God in my revelatory courses.
Absalom's story is in 2 Samuel chapters 13-18. The reason David had such a rebellious son goes way back. The issue was lust! David had wives and concubines but his taste for sin caused him to force himself on Bathsheba. When David impregnated her, he had her husband killed and lied about all of it. These sins caused him to be punished by God, therefore, Absalom's issue was born.
Let's read 2 Samuel 13:10-22
10 And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
11Â And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.
12Â And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.
13Â And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.
14Â Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.
15Â Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.
16Â And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.
17Â Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.
18Â And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king's daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.
19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.
20Â And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house.
21Â But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.
22Â And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.
Did you notice the lust issue? Ammon lusted after Tamar and Absalom lusted after revenge leading to his desire to force himself upon David's kingdom.
God told David that all this would happen due to his sin with Bathsheba.
2 Samuel 12:10-11
Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.
Jivel moment....it's amazing to me how God can give someone so much authority and they allow a slippery temptation to remove what they already had. Does that situation sound familiar to you?
By the way, encountering an Absalom spirit does not mean that you've made the same mistake that David did. I believe that every high-ranking leader needs to encounter an Absalom for growth. To properly lead, you must deal with different types of people and devils.

Let's break down 2 Samuel 12:10-11.
Punishment (the sword shall never depart from thine house)
This punishment was fulfilled with David's son's Amnon, Absalom and Andonijah.
Punishment (I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house)
Absalom and Amnon were evil.
Punishment (I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.)
Absalom laid with his father's concubines.
Nathan the prophet also prophesied that the death of his son would be worse than his own. A prophet's gotta say what a prophet's gotta say... Check out my "I Am A Prophet" course.
So what are the signs, the traits, and how to detect it?
If you are a leader, you should be praying for those under your influence. If you do pray and seek God about how to help them, He will show you the issue before it arises. Most of them don't want your help because they hate you so much but don't reveal it until later. You still try to help who you can.
I remember many years ago when God gave me a very detailed vision of a person who would try to take over the ministry. I'll share a tiny bit of the vision with you. In the vision, the person was in a prisoner's uniform and they tried to steal my shoes but my shoes were too big. Once God gave me the full interpretation, I was excited and asked God for the easiest way to get rid of them. I felt overjoyed about knowing their exact agenda and timeline. Wahoo!!!
But..
He said, love them, teach them, train them. I thought, but why? But I said, "Yes, Lord." Every single thing I saw and heard is exactly what happened. Apparently, I needed the paperwork, experience, and tools for training leaders.

Here's a list of characteristics to watch out for:

Deceitfulness | Thinks they know better than leadership |
Pride | Hates when a good idea is not their own |
Self-promoting | Spirit of antichrist |
Look at me attitude (attention seeking) | Justifies their wrongs by blaming you |
Enjoys division and discord | Willing to invest in plotting |
Easily turns against the leader | Similar to Jezebel and Ahab |
Uses flattery to get ahead and attention | Willing to turn to witchcraft to get what they want |
Not willing to do the real work it takes | Impatient with God and everybody else |
Thief | Hates order |
Lusts for someone else's reputation, things, and anointing | Blames leader for their random ideas that are not successful and unaccomplished dreams |
Capitalizes on offense | Often operates with the spirit of insanity |
Promotes the thought of them being the leader instead | Similar to narcissist |
There are many more clues but I think that's a great leap for you to recognize the spirit.
The dissecting would require you to examine and analyze. Pray and ask God to reveal the root of the issue. As I mentioned in the beginning, lust was the problem and always had been. Just because someone is operating in the spirit of Absalom, it doesn't justify throwing them out. Dig deeper, pray harder, and protect ya stuff!!! Pray for your own protection but pray that God strengthens you to help others. Address the spirit and cast it out if they want deliverance.
Do not allow it to fester under you, over the years, it'll try to stomp on top of you and try to destroy you. This person is terribly insecure and tries to constantly prove that they have more value than others. First, they try to prove to the leader that they have more value than everyone else, then they try to prove to everyone else that they have more value than the leader.
Prayer to Love the person:
Lord, I repent allowing the spirit of Absalom to fester in my camp. I ask for strength, wisdom, and compassion to address the spirit while loving the person. Lord, I ask for protection while moving forward with You. Lord, I bind up the spirit of Absalom in your beloved child and command them to be loose from the bondage of the spirit of Absalom. In the name of Jesus. Amen
